Janie Velez-Mitchell appeared on CNN to talk about the school in Chicago that has 115 girls who are teen mothers. Instead of offering up some practical solutions to the problem such as getting teens to take responsibility, Velez-Mitchell bashes abstinence education and president Bush for promoting abstinence education.
Aside from bad politics and a faulty analogy about wearing a seat belt, what really ticked me off about Velez-Mitchell's rant was the fact that she acted as if teens are the same as animals, like dogs in heat. That we can't control ourselves.
Well guess what? We can. Sure, there are a lot of people out here who don't, but just because many people don't practice abstinence doesn't mean it's impossible.
Are we really just like animals, unable to control our sexual urges as this pundit would have us think? Or did God make us better, capable of using our bodies in ways that glorify Him?
