What is your purpose? Its not that complicated...

As a youth pastor, I get asked all the time about what "God's will for my life" is.  Teenagers and young adults want to know what the future has in store for them.  Sometimes God will tell us straight up, and sometimes its very hard to know.  However the Bible has given us clear indications what our purpose is, and how we are to serve God.

So many times we stress out over God's will or God's purpose, but when we get into the Word we know some things we should be doing NOW.  Matthew 5:13-16 tells us that we are to be salt and light to the world.  We are to be an example to non-believers.  People should be able to see us and know that we serve Christ.

How do we show that we serve Christ?  This is an easy question to answer, because again its clearly written in the Word.  James 1:27 says that "pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep ones self unstained from the world".  So we simply serve those that are a little less fortunate than we are.  1 John 3:17 says that "whoever has the world's goods, and sees his brother in need and closes his heart against him, how does the love of God abide in him?"

I know this may seem trivial and juvenile, but this is the depth of the gospel.  If you want to know God's will for your life its simple, give your life away.  Jesus died to take on our sinfilled, dirty life, so that we could have His life.  If we have His life then our purpose is to serve others as He did.  God's will for our lives is not complicated, just be obidediant and serve others.
