Title: “Healthcare mandate: Get insured…or else”

Summary: In the current Senate healthcare bill, set for a vote Christmas Eve, the government will force everyone to purchase health insurance or face a penalty of up to $2,250 per family a year. From The Heritage Foundation, a director says that “…it may be unconstitutional to allow the federal government to mandate that people buy a certain product. I can’t imagine our Founding Fathers wanted to empower a limited federal government to do what they’re doing right now.” Prison time is also possible for those who refuse to pay the fine.
Opinion: This is outrageous: forcing Americans to purchase something because it is a “right” for us to have healthcare. We should be free to live without healthcare (gasp! I think Pelosi fainted). That point is interesting: the way our government was set up, we are allowed to fail, which causes initiative. All this welfare, however, makes it impossible to fail: and who would work eight hours a day if he could receive free money, healthcare, etc? Besides that, the Senate bill funds abortion and is filled with large amounts of pork-barrel spending, which the President said should not happen anymore. Besides the complete overhaul (translation: government takeover) of our healthcare system, these other problems hidden in the 2,000+ pages of the bill make it, in my mind, a big No.
