Current Event: "Submarine duty for women - it's a go"

Title: “Submarine duty for women – it’s a go”

Summary: The Navy has removed restrictions that prevented women from serving on submarines. Since Congress did not intervene by a certain date, the new rules are now in effect. Previous studies found that placing women on submarines was unnecessary and troublesome. However, the Navy has moved ahead in spite of opposition and obvious problems with integration.

Opinion: I think that this is not in the best interests for the Navy or its servicemen. The placing of women in submarines must have been done to satisfy “women’s rights activists” because all of the data gathered on the subject is against the decision. A Navy study in 2007 said that the integration of women in submarines would be hard to be carried out because of “very unique space limitations, equipment density, [and] design constraints in an extended mission requirements environment.”
